Fox News host Maria Bartiromo gave Ron DeSantis a harsh reality check over the weekend, pressing him to explain how his failing campaign has any path forward to beating Donald Trump. DeSantis danced around the issue, pretending that he just has to keep putting himself out there to make voters like him. But that's actually what's costing him the most support, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

This past weekend, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on Fox News opposite host Maria Bartiromo to talk about his, uh, we'll call it a disaster of a campaign. And I think even that as being a little too generous. But either way, Ron DeSantis shows up and wants to talk about his campaign. So, all right, let's talk about your campaign. Maria Barta Romo says, and she says this to Ron DeSantis. Let's face it, governor Donald Trump is ahead of you by a significant margin. I think the last poll was 52% above right now for Trump. How are you going to cut into Trump's lead? Like, what truly is your path to victory?

at that point, I just imagined the sheer panic going through Ron DeSantis brain, right? Like Fox News has been gushing over Ron DeSantis for, you know, a couple years now. He's had very friendly, casual interviews, softball questions, and then finally it's Maria Bart Romo of our, of all people that basically has to be like, look, dude, you got no path forward. What the, what are you even doing? caught myself, but what are you even doing in this race anymore? And Ron DeSantis answered, thusly, you show up, you make the case. You don't mail it in you, you don't go missing an action. You meet voters on the ground in the early states, Iowa, New Hampshire in particular, and tell them about the future of the country and why you're the best candidate. And so I think that I'll be the guy I've been the most dependable leader of the Republican Party has had in recent years. I've delivered. I haven't just talked. And, and that's what we need in Washington. The times for excuses is over 2024 is make or break. We're not getting a mulligan on this one. We either get the job done or we're going to be at a hole in this country for the next generation.

That's not an answer. Like, how do you improve your failing campaign? Well, I go out there and meet people. Oh, dear God, you do realize, Ron, that that is why you do not have like the neck and neck poles that you did before you went out and started meeting people, it's been crystal clear ever since you officially got on the campaign trail. Hell, even before you did when you were doing your book signings, when people actually got to meet you, they became less likely to support you after the personal interactions they have with you. So if your solution is you show up, you make the case, you don't go missing an action. No. The only path forward for you, Ron, is to go missing an action. Like if you just shut up and stop talking to people right now, you may have a shot at winning this thing, but the more you talk, the less they like the, the less they like you, the more you show up, the less they support you. So maybe you should take all of this idea,

Whatever that you have, if you can call it an idea and just do the opposite, right? Like, like George Costanza in that Seinfeld episode where every instinct he's had his whole life is wrong. So he starts doing the opposite and boom, suddenly see success. Maybe you ought to try that, Ron, because I can promise you if your plan is just to go out there and talk to people, your campaign is going to be completely dead before the voting begins in Iowa.
