Judge Chutkan Again Traps Trump With Order On Whether To Televise His Trial

Federal trials are generally not televised for the public, but given the extreme nature of Donald Trump's January 6th trial, Judge Tanya Chutkan says that she is willing to make the trial available to viewers, but only if Donald Trump gives the OK for that to happen. Chutkan has now issued an order demanding that Trump make the decision and she'll go with whatever he says. Trump had, in the past, said that he wants the trial to be televised, and Chutkan is now telling him to put up or shut up. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Donald Trump has been put into yet another box by Judge Tanya Chut, right? Recently, as we all know, she repealed temporarily the gag order against him as he appeals it. And he's done nothing but run his mouth and violate the gag order if it had been in place. So she set a trap for him there, but she set another trap for him this past Friday. And this trap is about whether or not his trial is going to be televised. Now, Trump has made big claims in the past that I want this televised, I want everybody to see it. I'll testify, I'll do all this. Let the public see it. So in response to a motion filed by a consortium of media outlets on October 5th, judge Chut, Ken finally said, you know what? Federal trials are obviously not televised. The media consortium got together, filed the motion and said, listen, this is obviously an unprecedented thing.

It it, it has huge value to the American public to see what's happening. We want the trial televised. Jack Smith and his prosecutors have said, you know what? We're cool with it. So Judge Jukin, rather than just issuing a ruling on this, has actually left the decision up to Donald Trump himself. The man who swears he wants a televised trial. So Chuck can on Friday, uh, told Trump and his legal team, you guys now have till November, uh, 10th to tell me whether or not you want it televised. And if you do not want it televised, you have to list the explicit reasons why you don't want the public to see what's happening. So once again, she's put him in a box because Trump can either easily say yes, televise it, and that's not gonna go well for him. Or he can backtrack on his previous statements and say, no, don't televise it.

And here's all the reasons why I don't want that to happen. So he's either gonna look like a coward or he's going to set a major trap for himself by saying, yes, let's put this thing on tv. But the thing with Trump, we all know this. Trump himself knows this. He loves nothing more than being in the spotlight. He doesn't care what he's in the spotlight for. Right? Could be something good, could be something bad, could be something in between. But as long as all eyes are focused on him, he's happy. So I think that Donald Trump will likely ignore the advice of his lawyers, who will probably tell him like, dude, do not put this on tv. It's not gonna be good. Um, and plus it puts more pressure on those lawyers, by the way. 'cause then you do have the entire public scrutinizing everything those idiots say in court. But Trump wants that spotlight. He knows this would be, you know, to borrow NBC's old catchphrase must see

Tv. I mean, just like the OJ Simpson trial. Like I remember that vividly because I was in seventh grade, you know, all through that summer. I watched it. We, we all watched the white Bronco chase. We watched the start of the trial and when the verdict came out again, I was in seventh grade. It was during my math class. I remember math teacher I remember who sat right in front of me. They turned on the TVs all in the school, and we all got to watch the verdict. That's how big that case was.
