In a ruling late Friday afternoon, Judge Aileen Cannon said that she is not going to delay Donald Trump's classified documents trial...YET. Instead, she set a deadline for March for herself to make the decision on whether or not delay the trial until after the election, effectively taking up the entire timeline so that other trials can't schedule things to happen during that time. This was a decision that completely defies all logic, and it serves no purpose other than to cause chaos, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

On Friday, judge Eileen Cannon shocked everyone when she announced that she was not going to delay Donald Trump's trial till after the 2024 presidential election. She said, I am sticking with the month of May and I am not going to deviate from May. And then there was a little asterisk, I guess you would call it by her announcement that I am sticking with May. Of course with the caveat, she says, of, you know, by March I'm actually gonna tell you if I'm actually gonna stick with May. But for now, I am not going to delay Donald Trump's trial. I I could, I might, I probably will, but I won't tell you that until two months before this trial is set to begin, you know, I gotta tell you, that is not the decision I expected from Judge Cannon. I really did think she was just gonna straight up come out and say that I'm gonna give Trump everything he wants.

But instead she said, I am not gonna give Donald Trump everything he wants until March because this is exactly what Donald Trump wanted. He just doesn't officially get it yet. Right? It's like showing your kids their Christmas presents and then wrapping 'em and saying, okay, but you not get it until December 25th, right? She's gonna do what Trump wants her to do, which is delay the trial. And the big reason for that is 'cause this trial is being laid out under the Classified Information Procedures Act or CIPA and under cipa. In order to move on to any of the next phases of the trial or the discovery process, the current phase has to be completely closed out and finished. So let's say if there's, you know, seven phases that they have to go through, they can't move on to phase two and phase three and start doing a little bit of that work until phase one is completely closed out and moved on from.

Because of that there will be delays and each time one phase runs over time, which has already happened. It delays the beginning of the next phases of the trial. So yes, this thing will end up being delayed just by virtue of the way that the Sipple works. Second thing is, do you know what this does? And this is the big one and this is why I think she did this. This prevents any of the other trials from making any decisions about timelines because she has now taken up the entire timeline. That's what Judge Cannon did. She took up the whole timeline. She said, I'll let you know in March if we're still on for May. And if it's not May, it could be June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January fe. See, nobody else can set a trial during that time.

And if they do set a trial and she's like, oh no, I was totally gonna do it, then oh well I guess I have to postpone my trial until, uh, may of 2025. She is corrupt. She is proving that she is corrupt and it is beyond time for Jack Smith to file a motion with the appellate court to get her kicked off the case. She is doing this intentionally. She's not good at what she does, but she does know how to delay this and give Trump everything he wants. And that is exactly what is happening here.
