New Republican House Speaker Thinks America Deserves God's Wrath

Just one month ago, shortly before becoming House Speaker, Republican Congressman Mike Johnson was on a televised prayer call with MAGA pastor Jim Garlow where Johnson prayed that God gives America one more chance - instead of giving us the retribution we "deserve." Congressman Johnson believes that America does, in fact, deserve to be punished by God, and in typical right wing evangelical fashion, he says that it is because of the LGBTQ Community. People like this are dangerous, and now they are in charge of the House. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Back in October, before he became the Speaker of the House, Republican congressman Mike Johnson took part in a prayer call with MAGA Pastor Jim Garlow. Now this prayer call, call was in fact televised. So, you know, it's, it's out there for anybody that has the stomach to go and listen to it. But during the call, Mike Johnson, now the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives said that he thinks America deserves God's wrath, but he hopes, of course, that God doesn't, you know, inflict his wrath upon us. But oh man, do we deserve it for being such a sinful little country? Right here is what Mike Johnson had to say. The culture is so dark and depraved that it almost seems irredeemable. Um, and according to Rolling Stone, he cited as supposed evidence, the decline of national church attendance and the rise of L-G-B-T-Q Youth. The fact Johnson lamented that one in four high school students identifies as something other than straight.

We repent for our sins individually and collectively, and we ask that you not give us the judgment that we clearly deserve. We're violating his commands. We're inventing new ways to do evil. We have to ask ourselves, how long can his mercy and his grace be held back? So Johnson is openly wondering like, how much more can we God off here in this godless country of ours before we suffer his wrath? Now it's people like Mike Johnson that have made me lose all faith in religion like a hundred percent. Uh, when I first started working here at Ring of Fire, just to get a little personal with this story, back in 2004, uh, I was a Catholic. Granted, I didn't really go to church, never liked it, but holidays, special events, I would definitely show up. I don't even do that anymore. I have lost all faith in all organized religion, and it's 100% because of people like Mike Johnson.

You know, before I started here at Ring of Fire, I didn't really pay attention to that. But in the early years we did, you know, countless segments on the perversion of religion and Christianity to fit this bizarre right wing ideology. You know, they're not adapting their ideology to fit into Christianity. They're bastardizing Christianity to fit into their ideology. There is a world of difference between those two things, by the way. And once I saw that, and once I realized what was happening, and once I realized who the true evil people are in this country, people like Mike Johnson, it made me lose all faith. All hope. You know, that, that there is some kind of higher power, because if there were, like, these are the kind of people that would be smed, right? I mean, isn't that what the Bible says? Johnson better hope that God does not inflict his wrath upon the United States because that wrath is not going to be going towards the L-G-B-T-Q youth that Johnson

Rails against. It's going to be against people like him, the people that have bastardized religion and are using it for their own personal gain. Those are the people that God off more than almost any other group. It's almost like these people have never even read the Bible. I mean, beware false prophets, right? Well, that's what we have in this new Republican speaker of the house. He's an extremist, he is a bigot. He is dangerous, but he tries to hide all of that by wrapping himself up in his Bible.
