Giuliani Gets In Trouble For Skipping Defamation Hearing

Rudy Giuliani set his lawyer up for a stern tongue-lashing this week, when he decided that he didn't want to show up for a mandatory pre-trial hearing. Giuliani's lawyer got admonished by the judge for not bringing his client in with him, and proceeded to ask if they were even ready to start their trial next week. This isn't going to bode well for Giuliani, especially considering that his liability in this defamation case has already been determined. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what happened.

Next week, Rudy Giuliani's defamation trial. The defamation lawsuit that was filed against him by two Georgia election workers is slated to begin. And as we all know, Rudy Giuliani was already found liable for the defamation. So the trial is only gonna be about how much he owes, but this week Giuliani was set to appear for a pretrial hearing in Georgia in front of us District Judge Beryl Howell, who's gonna be overseeing the trial. And Giuliani just decided, I'm not gonna show up, I'm not gonna comply with this. Which by the way, his non-compliance with the discovery portion of this lawsuit is actually why the judge went ahead and issued the summary judgment saying, Giuliani, you did it. You're not even disputing it. So your liability's already been determined, but Giuliani thought, nah, screw it, I'm not, I don't want to go to Georgia this time of year.

So he didn't show up. And the judge, judge Beryl Howell was, so that she took it out on Giuliani's lawyer who says it was totally his own fault, because according to the lawyer, he misinterpreted the agreement that they had with the judge, that the lawyer and the defendant would show up at every single pretrial hearing as well as the trial itself. So somehow, some way after agreeing that, we'll be there for everything, the lawyer thought, nah, he doesn't have to be here for this. What's the big deal? So when the lawyer told Judge Howell that, yeah, I, I misinterpreted it, Howell responded and said, how could you have missed that? And did you miss it? The lawyer replied, I, I did, I, I apologize. Lawyer Joseph Sibley, by the way. And then Howell responded, well that sets the tone for this, doesn't it?

It's not a good start to the trial we're about to begin. The judge said that's like, I know I talk a lot about Donald Trump having like really, really bad lawyers, but you gotta give a little credit to Sibley here for just being, at least in this particular matter, a moron like, ah, my bad judge. And then the judge so mad was like, well, I guess that's gonna set the tone for everything moving forward now, isn't it? You're not off to a good start. Are you when a judge tells you that, it's basically the judge's way of saying, well, hey, guess what buddy? Boy, you and your client are screwed. So that's what happened in Georgia this week and I have to imagine that next week is going to be filled with fireworks as well. Giuliani has already tried to file a couple pretrial motions, one of which actually got slapped down earlier this week, when he tried to limit

the trial and say, we don't need a jury trial. We just like, judge, you just do this. Which of course was Giuliani's way because he kind of argued this in the, uh, complaint that, Hey, I know I gotta pay their legal fees, but they're using their lawyers too much. So let's, let's cut down on the amount of work the lawyers have to do. Things are already going very bad for Giuliani, and I don't imagine they're gonna get any better when the trial starts next week.
