Judge Trashes Matt Gaetz And Marjorie Taylor Greene But Still Rules In Their Favor

A judge in California laid into Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene in a recent ruling, even though the ruling was, for the most part, in their favor. The judge blasted the two Republican lawmakers for making claims in their lawsuit that activist groups should be punished for getting their rallies cancelled, with the judge pointing out that there is no evidence at all to back up those claims. In a ruling last week, a federal judge had no other choice but to smack down both Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, after the two of them had filed a lawsuit against several venues in the state of California that canceled their appearances back in 2021. But also they had sued several activist organizations, including the NAACP and the League of Women Voters, uh, because those groups had pushed for these venues to cancel these two individuals. And there's a weird thing that happened in this ruling from uh, US district judge, uh, Hernan Vera. Now, judge Vera said, Hey, your lawsuit against these venues for canceling, you can absolutely proceed. I'm not gonna touch that. However, you're not gonna sue these activist groups for doing nothing more than exercising their first Amendment rights. But you're coming into my court with conspiracy theories about these groups. You can f straight off with that.

Here is what the judge actually said. Much more professional than the way I put it, but I do prefer the way I put it. I think it's more powerful. But the judge wrote quote, the gravamen of plaintiff's claims against the nonprofit defendants is both legally and literally a conspiracy theory that relies purely on conjecture and without an unlawful conspiracy. All that is left to, uh, uh, uh, to ever against the nonprofit. Defendants are the unremarkable allegations that they exercise their own first amendment rights to lobby for the cancellation of an event that is protected the effect of plaintiff's unprecedented and stunningly deficient. Pleading hailing nine civil rights groups into federal court hauling nine civil rights groups into federal court for speaking out against an event should shock and equal measure civic members from across the political spectrum. In other words, the judge is basically saying, you're suing these people for exercising their First Amendment rights.

And everybody in this C country should be shocked and appalled at what you did. Now, having said that, of course the judge is like, but you can sue the venues for canceling you. And to that, I say, what? How a venue, I don't know if you've ever had to book an event, okay? But you book an event, you're gonna see in the fine print down there, we reserve the right to cancel your event. You know, rain shine, whatever it is. We wake up in a bad mood, we can cancel your event. Now there's caveats on that, depending on the venue, and it varies. But, you know, it could, places right next door to each other have different caveats. It could say, we have to give you two days notice. It could say, we have to give you 30 days notice. It could say we have to refund your full amount, or you forfeit the full

Amount of your deposit. So I don't know what the fine print was for these venues that they booked. And perhaps that's why the judge is allowing this to go forward. If the venues did violate the agreement by the last minute cancellation, then I could see how they could sue to get their money back. But in terms of suing, because oh, we were canceled because of our politics. Yeah, happens all the time happens for people who speak out about world events. It happens to people who happen to, you know, uh, comedians who think it's funny to punch down. Instead of attacking those in power, people get canceled. Venues cancel.
