DOJ Tells Judge To Send Steve Bannon Straight To Jail

Prosecutors at the Department of Justice are telling Judge Carl Nichols that there is no reason to extend the "stay" on Steve Bannon's prison sentence after he lost at the Court of Appeals last week, and that the judge should immediately order Bannon to prison for four months. But Nichols is a Trump appointee, and it doesn't appear likely that he wants to send one of the former president's most ardent supporters away for the next four months. Yesterday, prosecutors with the US Department of Justice asked Judge Carl Nichols, the man who oversaw Steve Bannon's criminal trial. They asked him to go ahead and throw Bannon in the slammer because he lost his appeal. And after all, judge Nichols, didn't you say that Bannon could stay out of jail pending his appeal? Well, that appeal's over. So what are you waiting for? Put Steve Bannon in jail. Now, for anybody who's not familiar with the case, of course, Steve Bannon was charged with defying a congressional subpoena. He went through a criminal trial. He was convicted in October of 2022. We're in May of 2024, but in October of 2022, he was convicted and sentenced to four months in jail. Now, you, you can do your quick math there. Had banon not asked, the Trump appointed judge Carl's, uh, Carl Nichols to suspend his sentence pending appeal, Steve Bannon would've been out of jail more than a year ago.

Like, it'd be over, you'd be done. You would've served your time. And we all could have moved on from this. This would've been an issue far in the past, in the political world because a, you know, a year and a half, however long it would've been since he got outta prison is an eternity in American politics. So it'd be over. You'd have nothing to worry about, right? But instead, Carl Nichols, the judge who of course, as I've said, is a Trump appointed judge, said, no, no, no, no, no, you don't have to go to jail yet. Doesn't matter if the appeals process takes years and years. You just go on scurry along, do your little podcast and spread right wing talking points to everybody. Say hi to the guy who appointed me. Would you? Nah, the judge didn't say that, but I'm sure he was thinking it probably, right?

But either way, the Justice Department told the judge this week, again, Tuesday, yesterday, they said, we've had enough. This guy's been convicted. The Appeals Court has now upheld that conviction. It's time to end this charade. Put this guy in jail for four months. We upheld our part of a bargain, right? We, we complied with your order saying he could stay outta jail. We went through the appellate process with him. We wasted our time because that appeals panel last week said the exact same thing that we said in court. He did it. There's no excuse for it. There was nothing wrong with the trial. Put him in jail. Carl Nichols has not indicated what he's going to do. Now, the other thing I said, and I mentioned this, you know, yesterday, is the fact that Peter Navarro, Donald Trump's former trade advisor, is currently in jail for the exact same thing, defying a congressional subpoena from the House Select Committee, investigating January 6th. The difference is the judges Navarro had an Obama, a Obama appointed judge by apologies. Um, so the Obama appointed judge said, okay, you're convicted. Here's your sentence. Go to jail. You can appeal it when you're in jail. Do whatever. But I'm done with my part. Bye-Bye.

The Trump appointed judge is clearly protecting Steve Bannon and showing us that if you're a politically connected person in the United States, the justice system clearly does not apply to you. The DOJ is trying to reverse that, but you're trying to change a MAGA guy's mind, and we all know that that's virtually impossible.
