Senate Republicans Get Humiliated After Plan To Embarrass Democrats Backfires

Recently Republicans in the Senate came up with a plan to embarrass a pair of sitting Democrats who were facing very tough reelection races this year, uh, senators John Tester and Sherrod Brown. And what Republicans were gonna do in this sneaky little plan was they were gonna use the Congressional Review Act to challenge, uh, several administrative rules put in place by the Biden administration and government departments. And then using the Congressional Review Act, it was gonna force these Democrats to have to go on record voting in favor of these rules that the Biden administration put in place. Now, unfortunately, Republicans have decided before they even did any of this, which they were planning on doing according to Axios, uh, they've decided to go ahead and not do it. And the reason is because these idiot Republicans realized, wait a minute, what if they vote against it?

What if they actually do vote to overturn these rules from the Biden administration? Then we look like idiots. And they appeal more to moderate voters in their states who may not like these rules. So Senate Republicans hatched a plan to humiliate Democrats, and before they even did it, realized they were the ones that were gonna be humiliated and just scrapped the plan altogether. For those of you not familiar with the Congressional Review Act, uh, it is a law that allows the Senate, uh, in this particular instance, if they get 30 senators who vote to invoke the Congressional Review Act, what then happens is they can review rules put in place by the administer or the executive branch, I should say. Uh, so anything from the FDA, anything from the E-P-A-F-T-C, whatever it is, they can actually review the rules in Congress, vote on them, strike them down, or vote to affirm them. And these Republicans thought, okay, here's what we're gonna do. We know that some of these things are not popular, right? Like his nursing home rule. We don't, we don't want rules from nursing homes, right? That that'd be horrible. Um, what some of the other ones, it's so dumb. Um, the ESG investing clean water regulations, those were the things they were hoping to strike down via the Congressional Review Act. You know, because people don't like clean water.

And then of course, they came to the realization, well, these Democrats are running in, you know, moderate slash right-leaning states. If they vote against them, then

We look dumb and the Democrats endear themselves to these moderate voters and were screwed. Or if they vote in favor of them, we're actually screwed also, because then these really become set in stone. So there was literally no good outcome for Senate Republicans. So according to Axios, they've just backed off the plan altogether. So even though it's not something that's going to happen, it's worth talking about, because that's what these Republicans are doing. They knew they weren't gonna be successful. This was not actually about challenging regulations that they don't like. This whole plan was to humiliate the Democrats, and before they could do that, they ended up humiliating themselves. There has never been a more perfect story to encapsulate today's modern Republican party than this one.
