6:24Now PlayingRepublican Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer sunk to a new level during a recent interview on Fox News when he decided to go into an attack on Tim Walz’s family, including his children. Comer attacked the children as part of the justification for his investigation into Walz, whom Comer believes is being “groomed” by China. These kinds of attacks used to be completely off limits, but this one wasn’t even a blip on the media’s radar, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

You know, there was a time in American politics, there was a time in American politics while I was covering American politics where it was completely off limits to talk about a candidate's children to go after a candidate's family, unless those individuals inserted themselves into the political process. Once that happened and you become a part of it, you become a part of the campaign or you become a spokesperson, all bets are off. But that's what happened with George W. Bush and his two daughters who were, of course, in college through his administration, they were grown adults, but they were still his kids and they were off limits. Same thing with Obama's children. Trump's children, of course, inserted themselves into the process. So the ones who did so were not off limits. You know, you didn't see people running segments about Tiffany Trump or Barren Trump because they weren't involved. But now that, uh, that boundary, that red line has been crossed by Republican representative James Comer during an interview last Friday on Maria Bar Romo's Fox News program. Her mornings with Maria's show. James Comer got on the air on live TV and attacked Governor Tim Wall's family, including his children. And by the way, one of those children is only 17 years old, so they are a minor, and they were openly attacked by James Comer. Here's what he said.
Yeah, that's a scary family there. I mean it, you know, the, it looks like the type of family that's been indoctrinated and they, they, they believe that, uh, there's a better way to do business. And you know, with some of the things that the WATS have said about China, uh, their affection for China, uh, that's very concerning to me because, uh, we don't want to set our business model like China's. I mean, China's already got too big of a foothold here in the United States, stealing our,
That's a scary family right there, James Comer said on live tv. It looks like the type of family that's been indoctrinated.
First of all, that's an insane claim. Like right off the bat, like to say that these kids look like they've been indoctrinated. And you may try to argue that. No, he is talking about the whole family, like the husband and wife, Tim Walls and his wife. No, he said family. The family includes every member of it. And it is very obvious from the context of the, the segment that he was referring to, the kids. The kids have somehow been indoctrinated to be pro-China, whatever the hell that means. This has crossed a line, it has crossed a line that for decades in American politics, you dare not cross. It would end your career. But James Comer doesn't care because James Comer, as Democratic representative Maxwell Frost pointed out last week in a hearing, James Comer has one job right now. That job is to make sure Donald Trump wins the election.
Here is what Frost said during last week's hearings, uh, which of course was just on the failures of the Biden Harris administration, that was literally what the topic was. In the hearing, frost said, quote, how can we allow this hearing to continue when we are in direct violation of the House rules? This committee functions as an extension of the Trump campaign. First we went after President Biden with a nonsense impeachment hearing. Then we went after his son. Now we're going after the Vice president because she's the nominee. And my question is, Mr. Chairman, are we going after Tim Walls next week? I, I hear from my staff that you're planning a hearing on Governor Tim Walls, even though he's been governor for five years, and his name hasn't been uttered in this room or in this committee until something happened recently. Oh, yes. He became the vice presidential nominee.
