The Trump administration, according to multiple sources, has been working on plans to launch drone strikes in Mexico in an attempt to take out the drug cartels. This would mean that the US government is actively considering bombing a sovereign country with no active military conflict whatsoever. This plan is nothing short of insane, but that’s par for the course with this administration. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains what’s happening.

You know, for the most of the week, uh, it, it's been nothing but tariffs, markets, all of that. So let's switch gears a little bit, because there are, believe it or not, other things happening in the world. And one of those other things may be the United States launching a military strike against the country of Mexico. According to insiders in the Trump administration, Donald Trump, the Department of Defense, and the CIA, have been actively working on plans on how to conduct drone strikes in the country of Mexico to take out the drug cartels. Now, before I continue, let me just preface this by saying nobody likes the drug cartels unless you're in a cartel. Obviously, we don't like them. We don't like what they do, we don't like what they're selling, and we wish it would stop. But at the same time, just because we don't like what they're doing doesn't mean the United States military gets to send their drones over a sovereign country and start bombing people.

It hasn't worked out well for us in the past, even in areas that were active war zones, right? Our government makes mistakes with drones all the time. We've killed cars, filled with children because, oops, we missed, or, oops, we thought it was somebody else, so we're just gonna kill the kids. So we're not very good when it comes to these drone strikes. Sure, we've taken out some targets, but the collateral damage has been far worse than the, you know, small victories we've had. And that's been in, you know, kind of remote places, thousands and thousands of miles away that most of Americans were able to just put out of their minds, right? Like, well, I mean, yeah, that horrible thing in Afghanistan, but it's Afghanistan. You know, I, I'm not thinking about Afghanistan. Okay, well, how are you gonna feel when you hear the same story?

Except it's in Mexico, you know, at this point, maybe just a few dozen miles away from the US border, maybe just a few hundred miles away. This isn't some far off conflict you can put out of your mind. When we're launching drones out of the state of Texas and bombing somebody two minutes later, this is a disaster, a a, an international catastrophe waiting to happen, and the administration is actively drawing up plans to make it happen. Now, you may think to yourself, but even Mexico doesn't like the drug cartels. So if they approve it, what's the problem? The problem is, they have specifically said, we are not okay with this. Mexican president, Claudia Scheinbaum has said, quote,

The people of Mexico under no circumstances will accept interventions interference or any other act from abroad that is harmful to the integrity, independence, and sovereignty of the nation. What we want to make clear with this designation is that we do not negotiate sovereignty. This can't be an opportunity by the United States to invade our sovereignty. They can call cartels whatever they decide, but with Mexico, it is collaboration and coordination. Never subordination, no interference, and even less invasion because President Scheinbaum seems to understand what this administration is all about. It wouldn't be just a real quick send in the drones, take out the cartels, and we're outta there. It would be a, well, you did so poorly taking on the cartels, we're gonna take over this area of your country. I mean, that's not farfetched. We've literally done it this century, and that's what she's saying. We let these people in the door talking about the United States military, they'll never leave, and we will lose our sovereignty. So the administration is drafting these plans to drone strike Mexico, while the government of Mexico is literally telling them, don't you dare, but they don't care. This is what they want to do, and that is a horrifying thought.
