We're getting word that the FCC is to install a bias monitor at CBS as part of the deal that they were approved this merger, which we talked about this several weeks ago, that this would probably be something we saw, that they paid Donald Trump the bribe of a few million dollars. Then this merger was approved for billions of dollars, and now more details are coming out. One of the details is this ombudsman that's supposed to sit there and make sure that the news is fair and balanced.
And that ombudsman is going to report, it says directly to the president. So it's not even like they're going through the FCC to make sure that we have this fair coverage of everything. They're going directly to Trump. And I'm willing to bet this was probably something that Donald Trump behind closed doors negotiated to make sure that he, at the end of the day, gets to call the shots on what goes on CBS. Now, to me this is absolutely ridiculous because 99% of CBS is sitcoms, regular TV shows, whatever it is, game shows during the day. It's the late night talk show host Stephen Colbert, who Trump hates, who is now of course gonna be leaving, and 60 Minutes, and then the nightly CBS news. So we're talking about just a handful of shows, but now they're gonna have this bias monitor that's gonna do the exact opposite. Things will not be fair. They will be grotesquely skewed in Donald Trump's favor and the Republican party's favor. That's where we're at now. The great article talked about the fact that this is Orwellian. This is exactly the opposite of monitoring bias. It is creating bias. It's a form of double speak with this administration.
And CBS is owned by the Ellison family who are themselves Donald Trump's supporters. So I don't think that should be lost. This is not like this was some leftist conspiracy that they were pumping out information that favored the left. They were already right skewed empirically because the Ellison family encouraged this. There were those few exceptions that were appealing to the masses. And now this ombudsman's role is to stop that and go tell Trump, oh, they, they did this, or you can't do that. It's really remarkable. I keep thinking of the Communist Party where you would have somebody monitoring in the USSR days. Now we have it in the 21st century of America.
Right. And Donald Trump loves to yell at people and say that they are communists. He's saying it about Mamdani up in New York all the time. Communist, communist, communist. You are the one that is pulling stuff straight out of the KGB playbook here. And let's not forget, obviously, one, CBS would've won this lawsuit in a heartbeat. The fact that it wasn't immediately thrown out by the judge still blows my mind. Trump wasn't mad about the interview with Kamala Harris. What he was mad about was before they aired that interview, CBS on 60 Minutes talked about, we also extended an invitation to Donald Trump. Here's the emails where they said, absolutely not, which contradicted Trump's public talking point that I was never asked. So that's what made him mad. That's why he then claimed that the interview with Harris was somehow deceptively edited, which it wasn't. So they would've won. They him off by showing the emails that he intentionally said, I'm not gonna do this. That's what set it off and that's what caused all of this to happen.
Well, this administration has always been annoyed by reality as we've seen time and time again. They didn't like the fact checking in real time. They threw a fit about that during the 2016 election. Obviously that looks like states craft compared to where we are now. And of course, famously in the last week, they fired the person who was responsible for the jobs reports because it's much, much worse than anybody expected.
