According to new reporting — including on-the-ground work by New York Times journalists — U.S. airstrikes on small boats in the Caribbean and near Venezuela have killed more than 100 people. The official justification from the Trump administration and the Pentagon has been simple: Stop fentanyl. Stop cocaine. Protect America.

But there’s a major problem. Reporters actually went to the wreckage sites — spoke to fishermen who found the bodies, local police who buried them, and residents who filmed the strikes offshore. They examined the remains of a destroyed boat themselves. And they found no fentanyl. No cocaine. No confirmed hard-drug residue. Only trace marijuana residue — and empty, burned packets. Ring of Fire’s Jerrod Zisser breaks this down.
