1:39Now PlayingTampa, Florida. June 26th, 2021. Scott Mann was up earlier than usual. He walked into the backyard and onto his dock on the Alifia River, as he did every morning. The sun bounced brightly off the silty, slow moving river as it wound its way out to Tampa Bay. It was going to be a scorcher. As he sat down in the Adirondack chair and took a slow pull from his Yeti of coffee, his thoughts drifted 7,000 miles away to Nezam trying to survive another day in the scorching heat of Afghanistan.
Usually the river helped him unwind, but not today. Nezam was in trouble. His situation at the power plant was getting worse. Nezam and Scott had known each other for many years. And as much as Scott didn't want to ever get involved with Afghanistan again, Nezam's plight was making things personal, once more. He made a commitment to himself that if Nezam could get out of his current dilemma, Scott would kick over as many rocks as possible to help his friend get his special immigrant Visa or SIV and get out of Afghanistan.
His signal app went off. It was Nezam. Scott swallowed hard and opened the chat.
