On August 22nd, the United States imposed 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion of Canadian goods, even those compliant with CUSMA, after talks in Washington collapsed. Prime Minister Mark Carney called it a “miscalculation” and said Canada had been “attacked.” Canada has now announced dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs set to take effect on September 8th.
