Whitewashing Antisemitism Has a Price. LizzySavetsky allegedly being reported to Federal Trade Commission and Instagram for failure to disclose material connection to Fontainebleau for a promoted post. Serious violation.

The Law That Governs This

Under FTC rules, any “material connection” between you and a business must be clearly disclosed if you’re promoting it. A material connection includes:

• Cash payment

• Free hotel room

• Free upgrades

• Free meals

• Discounts

• Gifted experiences

• Barter deals

• Future compensation promises

If it affects how you talk about the business, you must disclose it. Period.

Instagram requires creators to:

• Use the “Paid Partnership” label when applicable

• Clearly disclose in the caption, not hidden in hashtags

• Make it unmissable to an average viewer

What Happens If You Don’t

1. FTC Financial Penalties

• Civil penalties up to $50,120 PER violation

• Each post can count as a separate violation

• Retroactive enforcement is real

2. Forced Public Legal Confessions

The FTC can force you to:

• Publicly admit wrongdoing

• Retroactively label old posts as deceptive

• Submit to years of compliance monitoring

That’s reputation destruction, not just a fine.

3. Instagram Can:

• Remove your monetization

• Shadow restrict your reach

• Permanently suspend your account

• Ban your access to branded-content tools

This happens quietly — no appeal culture fantasy.

“Free Rooms Are Not Cash” — This Is a Lie

The FTC explicitly treats free stays as compensation because:

• They replace expenses you would’ve paid

• They have clear dollar value

• They influence your endorsements

A comped hotel stay is legally identical to getting paid in cash.
