Forensic Psychology | True Crime | Trauma Recovery

Dive into the unfiltered world of forensic psychology as Dr. Dorothy Novitskie, a leading forensic psychologist, shares her journey confronting human darkness, trauma, and true crime. In this episode of The Suffering Podcast, host Kevin Donaldson explores how early childhood adversity fueled Dr. Novitskie’s passion for criminal mind analysis, and she reveals coping strategies—like healthy dissociation and self-care—that help professionals process graphic crime scenes and protect mental health. Hear firsthand accounts of her first encounters with human remains, boundary-setting tactics to guard against manipulation by offenders, and ethical dilemmas in evaluating parole and rehabilitation. Learn why resilience, trauma-informed care, and mental health support are essential for anyone working with violent crime or sex offenders. Whether you’re interested in forensic psychology careers, true crime analysis, or trauma recovery techniques, this conversation offers insights into how to face suffering without losing hope.

Dr. Novitskie's career has spanned two decades largely within clinical-forensic and outpatient settings. She has provided assessment and clinical care to clients across the lifespan, ranging from early childhood to those faced with end-of-life difficulties. Dr. Novitskie has extensive training and experience in conducting clinical and forensic mental health evaluations, focused on addressing various psycho-legal issues. She has specialty training in clinical, diagnostic, and sexual/violence risk assessments with both adult and juvenile offenders. At the county, state, and federal levels, Dr. Novitskie provides psychological evaluations and testimony for the courts, utilizing her training and hands-on assessment experience in various civil and criminal matters.

Dr. Novitskie conducts evaluations in a range of criminal and civil matters, including Pre-Employment & Fitness-for-Duty (FTD), Diagnostic/Need for Treatment Evaluations (NFT), and Violence, Sexual, and Fire-setting Risk Assessments.
