Richard Drax, the MP for South Dorset, inherited the 250-hectare Drax Hall plantation in Barbados from his father in 2017. In the past he’s described the role his ancestors played as “deeply regrettable” but says “I can’t be held responsible for something that happened 300 or 400 years ago.”
The historian Professor Sir Hilary Beckles is vice-chancellor of the University of the West Indies and chairman of the Caribbean Community Reparations Committee.
