Conservative MP Sir Charles Walker, vice chair of the 1922 Committee, has told Times Radio far more needs to be done to support people suffering with mental health issues linked to the coronavirus lockdowns.

Speaking to Jenny Kleeman and Luke Jones he said there wasn't enough consideration before any of the restrictions were brought in:

I don't think mental health has had a look in to be honest. I don't think people have thought about it much at all. That makes me a bit cross to be honest. There are a lot of people suffering out there.

I can't quite recall when the nation's mental health was discussed by Chris Whitty at a Number Ten press conference. He is meant to be the chief medical officer but perhaps I missed that.

These lives matter as much as anybody else's lives and I'm sorry if I sound agitated. I am agitated...we have SAGE scientists falling over themselves to bid up lockdown, to talk about it lasting into the summer. They have no idea what that does to people holding on by their fingernails gripping on for dear life.
