Speaking to Tom Newton Dunn and Paul Waugh on T&G on Sunday, the Prime Minister's father said:
I share your disappointment if you are disappointed. There was the barest of references to it in the G7 communique from Carbis Bay...I think it's been, perhaps you could say, a little bit of political hesitation to elevate the issue and the other point, of course, is you don't really need an international agreement on a carbon tax to proceed with carbon taxes. This is something which countries can do by themselves. Groups of countries can do it by themselves and the EU is perhaps further in advance on this one than anybody else is because there's a serious proposal on the table now for an EU cross border tax.
It would be a very, very good idea for Glasgow to simply say, look WTO, this is coming down the track.
