YouTube Description
as posted by the channelActress Juliet Stevenson spoke to Stig Abell and Aasmah Mir about hosting refugees in her house and what could be done to facilitate Ukrainians accessing asylum.
She said she had been campaigning for MPs to consider two amendments on the nationality and borders bill, as the text comes back to Parliament today.
She said: "The amendments that we're campaigning for MPs to support firstly is for the UK to commit to resettle 10,000 refugees arriving via safe schemes that are managed by the United Nations from around the world.
"It's not a big number compared to the, for example, the million that Poland has recently taken from Ukraine. And in fact, that figure of 10,000 breaks down to about 15 people per parliamentary constituency."
Asked about trafficking taking place, she said: "Of course, there are people trafficking, but the way to deal with people trafficking is to create safe routes, you know.
"At the moment, there are very, very few of those available, so of course, people resort to any measure they can when they're trying to evade bombs, and war and persecution."
She added: "If you've got a bomb falling on your town, you're not going to, it's not really like, you're going to be able to get to some embassy and apply for asylum."
She also talked about housing refugees in her own house, and how she is feeling about it.
