Durham Constabulary delayed the announcement for fear of swaying voters at the local elections yesterday. The Labour leader may be interviewed by detectives.
Police initially resisted further examination of the event in April last year, at which Starmer was seen drinking a beer, saying that its review of video did not establish a breach of coronavirus rules.
Attorney General Emily Thornberry has told Times Radio that she is "completely confident" that Keir Starmer "hasn't broken any rules" following Durham police opening their investigation into an event last year.
When pressed by Daniel Finkelstein on how the event that Starmer attended differed from the one for which Rishi Sunak was fined for being present at, she said that the Sunak event "had been organised in advance" and that the no10 event "was a not a work event, it was a celebration" and so was "clearly different circumstances".
