7:24Now PlayingBishop of Durham Paul Butler was asked on Times Radio whether he would conduct a same-sex marriage after the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby “affirmed the validity” of a 1998 declaration that gay sex is a sin.
Personally at present? No, I wouldn't. That's a simple, straightforward answer for you.
Because at present, my own continued view is that marriage should be between a man and a woman. And fully taking part in the living in love and faith process that the Church of England is involved in, in which we're seeking to explore together, what the way forward for us holding together in the same way that the communion is seeking to hold together. And we will be - the Bishops will be - engaged in that process through the autumn and there'll be proposals coming in February. And I think one of the things that will be always important is that people's consciences will be held to, so even if there were to be a change, and I think that's far from certain, if there were to be a change, then those who held what would be regarded as traditional orthodox view, would not be forced, no one's gonna be forced into conducting same sex marriages if they don't believe they should.
