From cop to Extinction Rebellion protester | 'We will quit disruption'

I walked through an XR demonstration in the middle of Oxford Circus with the pink boat. I talked to a few people, and I felt I had to help. So I started with them and ended up working in protest liaison.

I'm an ex Metropolitan Police Detective Sergeant, and worked on murder squads and local our Cid work for 34 years since 1983. until I retired in 2018 2019.

we have a very strict policy of getting in the way of emergency vehicles. Clearly, any disruption in London is going to has the potential of causingproblems for people who are trying to get to a hospital that is clear, or they're on the bus trying to get to work. That's clear. So you have to look at proportionality.

I don't think the government like any criticism whatsoever. And protest is an obvious form of criticism. And I want to reduce that to an absolute minimum, all the courts when you when you speak, like go to court quite a lot. When you speak to judges and barristers. They all accept that protest is a democratic, right, and it's a democratic form. And in order to protest, you have to disrupt the public. If you don't, there's no point being there. You have to disrupt emotionally or physically or audibly, there has to be some disruption, otherwise, the message doesn't influence. So I would argue that most people are aware about climate change.
