On Friday Trump reportedly cut $400 million of US defence aid to Taiwan. The move, which came in the midst of Trump’s trade deal negotiations with China, has been called a U-turn in US policy towards Taiwan. Diane Francis, editor-at-large for the National Post says China is not in a position to invade Taiwan, even if Trump doesn’t resume military aid. “China’s not in great shape. I don’t see China wanting to grab a chess piece off the board. That would be expensive.”
