I Hate Flow-Through Suppressors

Flow through suppressors are a classification of cans that attempt to balance sound suppression with firearm operating system performance. These are sometimes referred to as having “low back pressure” or better flow characteristics than traditional max suppression silencer. However, you cannot beat physics- if the suppressor is allowing gas to flow through it, it is not suppressing at maximum potential. That said, there are specific applications where a flow through design is better than a max suppression design. Most of the time those applications are for fully automatic, military applications where other concerns supersede the desire for better sound performance. On the commercial market, there is limited utility for these devices and they should be reserved for those weapons whose characteristics make it difficult or impossible to properly integrate a real suppressor.
