12:56Now PlayingSunday marked the 56th anniversary of the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery. This came on the heels of Bloody Sunday when peaceful protesters were attacked by police on the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
At the age of 15, Lynda Blackmon Lowery was the youngest person to participate in the march. She joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss her experiences in the fight for freedom and she offered advice for today's activists marching for justice. At the age of seven, she made a vow to march for justice and create change after her mother died. She heard Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speak about nonviolent activism at the age of 13. Her book, "Turning 15 On The Road to Freedom: My Story of the 1965 Selma Voting Rights March" documents her experience marching for the voting rights some legislators are trying to limit today.
