8:30Now PlayingA political power shift is getting ready to take place. A new U.S. Census report was released for 2020 and some states are picking up congressional seats while others are losing them. States growing in population and gaining seats include Texas, which gains two, Florida, Montana and Oregon. The states losing seats include Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and California. Reverend Dee Hawkins Haigler, a former Georgia state representative and political strategist, joined "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss what this means. Citing more political power in red states like Texas and Florida, Haigler said the GOP was happy. "The Republicans, they were a little excited yesterday, but I don't want them to count all their chickens before they hatch." She also said initiatives implemented by former President Donald Trump to stop the census and the COVID-19 pandemic played a part in census numbers.
