The U.S. has the highest rate of infant and maternal deaths in any high-income country and the Black women are four to five times likelier to have a pregnancy-related death.
Hatchett opens up about her daughter in law who died during childbirth.
“She would have had a greater rate of survival had she been giving birth in some third world country,” Hatchett says. “She was healthy; she was diligent about prenatal care. She did everything right, but they didn’t listen.”
