Payne has maintained his innocence for over 30 years but was sentenced to death in Tennesse. He has no previous criminal record and has an intellectual disability. Yodit Tewolde had an opportunity to speak with his sister, Rolanda Holman, and his attorney Kelley Henry, about the case and the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his case.
