About 700 women die in childbirth each year, and Black women are three to four times more likely to lose their lives due to pregnancy complications. Stacey Stewart, the President and CEO of the March of Dimes, joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Shannon LaNier to discuss the importance of this topic. She says hundreds of women die due to childbirth complications each year, and another 50,000 come close to death. Citing research, she says Black women are more likely to die and this is rooted in racism and the lack of equity in healthcare access. When asked how to change this, Stewart says it is important to push for systemic change in areas like access to doctors, insurance and implicit bias in healthcare providers.
