11:48Now PlayingAug. 1, 2021 was the five-year anniversary of 23-year-old Korryn Gaines being shot and killed by a Baltimore police officer and her five-year-old son at the time, Kodi, was wounded.
Police officers went to Gaines' residence to serve a warrant after she failed to appear in a traffic infraction case. The Gaines family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baltimore County and a jury awarded them with $38 million in damages, but was overturned by a judge.
Over the weekend, they settled with Baltimore County for an undisclosed amount. The family and supporters held a rally on Aug. 2 in honor of Korryn’s memory while advocating for police reform.
Rhonda Dormeus, Gaines’ mother, and family attorney J. Wyndal Gordon, join Sharon Reed on “Making the Case” to discuss the case and Korryn’s life.
All this and more on “Making the Case.”
