12:26Now PlayingMissouri Governor Mike Parson has been issuing pardons that have been met with outrage.
He pardoned Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the couple from St. Louis who pointed a rifle and handgun at Black Lives Matter protestors who were simply walking through their neighborhood. Notable people that were missing from the pardon list are Kevin Strickland and Lamar Johnson.
Strickland has spent over 40 years behind bars for a 1978 murder he did not commit, and Johnson has spent almost three decades for a 1994 murder he did not commit. Prosecutors in their counties have admitted their innocence.
Rep. Ashley Bland Manlove, who is a chair of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus, joins Sharon Reed on “Making the Case” to discuss the racial dynamics of the pardons.
