2:28Now Playing“Start Your Day” host Mike Hill and chief foreign affairs correspondent Nayyera Haq discuss what could have been done differently in terms of the withdrawal of troops in Afghanistan.
Haq believes that troops should have not given up control of the Bagram Air Force base to Afghan forces and just abruptly left without informing anyone. She says elements of this withdrawal were poorly planned.
When the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, the person in charge of military operations, was asked, “Why did you did you give it up so quickly?” His response was, “That’s a good question.”
Haq alleges that there were tactical mistakes made in the planning of this withdrawal. The Taliban coming in and taking control of the country was largely predictable.
