1:29Now PlayingAt least 46 people were killed and 800 passengers were rescued from public transit when Tropical Storm Ida’s record rainfall made its way to the Northeast this week.
“To wake up and know that we lost some of our fellow citizens simply because they weren’t able to get out of their car or they weren’t able to get out of their home” adds to an already devastating incident, per New York Governor Kathy Hochul. The governor says she’s going to be demanding answers once the FEMA assessment is done, including who knew what could have been done to prevent such a drastic impact on the state. The devastation is being called historic, as cities received a month’s worth of rainfall in a few short hours. Some rivers in the Northeast are forecasted to remain above flood stage into the weekend.
