According to the CDC data, about 100,000 people in America have the disease and most are of African descent. It occurs among one in every 365 African American births, and one in 13 Black children are born with the sickle cell trait.
Dr. Yvette Miller, executive medical officer at the American Red Cross, and Nicklaine Paul, founder of Sickle Cell Care Solutions, joined Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to talk about this disease.
