YouTube Description
as posted by the channelCarmen Bolden Day, the mother of Jelani Day, wants to make sure her son receives justice and other Black families don’t endure the lack of respect and resources she’s experienced.
Black people make up at least one-third of missing person cases but only 13% of the US population. Those statistics resonate heavily with Carmen as she tries to figure out what happened to her son. “I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know how to plan a search party, I didn’t know where to look at, I didn’t know who to talk to, I didn't know how to do anything,” she said of her decision to hire a private investigator.
Day says police “had the nerve” to tell her it was a 50% chance the body found in an Illinois river on September 4 was her son, though it took nearly three weeks before he was positively identified.
