Kelly’s sex trafficking and racketeering trial is finally in the hands of the jury, following weeks of testimony from multiple accusers, including an underage male. Kelly’s case is 30 years in the making and according to Derogatis, the tragedy is why it took so long for a court of law to listen to women of color who were victimized by the fallen R&B singer.
“I think it’s very clear that R. Kelly used his celebrity inappropriately,” added Henderson, “and he used it in a way that made him a criminal, a predator.” Deliberations in Kelly’s case are set to resume on Monday.
