2:13Now PlayingGrammy-winning artist Terrence Blanchard became the first Black composer in the history of the Metropolitan Opera.
Four thousand spectators looked on as “Prime” host Charles Blow's 2014 memoir "Fire Shut Up in My Bones" was acted out through the creative vision of Blanchard and a team of incredibly talented Black creatives.
"Fire" is co-directed by James Robinson and Camille A. Brown, the first Black director on the Met's main stage and the production's choreographer.
It addressed the racial tension of growing up Black in the South, recounting Blow's coming-of-age years and his struggles with racism in rural Louisiana.
