One Indianapolis-based organization served 50% more domestic violence victims in the past 10 months than in all of 2019. Domestic calls to 911 have nearly doubled and the state has seen a 113% jump in deaths related to domestic violence. Nationally, Black women are nearly three times more likely to be victims of domestic abuse when compared to white women. In terms of prevention, Nance says it’s important the community becomes more involved and shelters adequately address the needs of victims, among other things.
