Laura Murphy, a Fairfax County mother, has a son who brought home the novel “Beloved” as a reading assignment nearly a decade ago. Her offended son is now a lawyer who works for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Youngkin is using this coded debate to convert schools into battlegrounds, where Republicans can use the protection of children and parental rights as shields to wage a culture war over race, gender and states’ rights, disguised as a defense of the innocent.
