1:34Now PlayingA scary scene as hundreds of motorists were stranded on parts of a 48-mile stretch of I-95 in eastern Virginia, which is one of the nation’s busiest highways.
They’d been there since last night, some stuck for more than 27 hours. A severe winter storm that brought about 12 inches of snow and a tractor trailer crash is to blame. One motorist said she had not seen any police officers in the 16 hours she was stuck. With temperatures dropping into the 20s, reports of freezing and starving motorists soon filled social media.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced just after 5 p.m. EST that no more people were left stranded.
