8:44Now PlayingThursday marks one year since the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
One year ago, a violent mob of mostly white people stormed the Capitol to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election. Donald Trump lost and Joe Biden won, but many of the insurrectionists wouldn't believe the results. Hundreds of people were hurt, and five people died. While hundreds of people connected to the event have been charged, the number of people convicted of a crime is far lower.
Dr. Rashad Richey joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed to discuss the impact of that day and how the treatment of those rioters differs from the way Black protesters are treated.
