Biden also urged lawmakers pass The Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act would require jurisdictions with a history of discrimination to win prior approval from the Justice Department or federal courts in Washington before changing their voting rules.
