The U.S. Department of Treasury held its annual Freedman’s Bank Forum in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the failed Freedman’s Bank of the 1860-70s. The event brought together the public and private sectors to discuss fiscal policy to close the racial wealth gap.

In a sit-down interview with theGrio, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo discussed the new commitments from the Biden-Harris administration. He told theGrio the forum is an opportunity to “remind ourselves of the importance of trying to keep the unmet promises to not only freed slaves but the people of color in this country.” TheGrio’s White House correspondent Gerren Keith Gaynor (@MrGerrenalist) reports.
