A lack of gratitude is common in America today. People romanticize socialism and communism, claiming that they are "fair" systems while conveniently forgetting their bloody histories. But the reality is that no system is fair. Under communism, there will be a ruling class who maintains power at the expense of others. In this system, some people will suffer and others will enjoy privileges not afforded to everyone else.
