- It was found that in 2015 FinCen (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury had issue with Ripple and Ripple had to pay them a fine. FinCen stated the following in the ruling - The currency of the Ripple network, known as “XRP,” was pre-mined. In other words, unlike some other virtual currencies, XRP was fully generated prior to its distribution. As of 2015, XRP is the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, after Bitcoin. "
