This is a VERY complicated issue and I don't get NEARLY enough context or information in this piece. I implore you to look further and decide for yourself on this issue.
In a 2015 interview Matt Furie, the creator of pepe, said it was his goal to promote 4chan. In a recent interview he talked about how in early 2015 the alt right began co-opting pepe. He also stated that he wanted people to profit off of pepe.
Did Furie not know what happened on 4chan or what 4chan was doing with pepe? What made Matt change his mind and begin to file lawsuits against people profiting from pepe?
