We’re living in an age of outrage culture. When individuals in the public eye behave badly, the resulting shaming is usually swift ... and it can be ruthless.
And public outrage isn’t just limited to individuals.
Companies are frequently the targets of negative public reactions ... Company backlash can cause stock prices to make huge moves.
For traders, these events can actually create opportunities. Are you ready to take advantage of them?
In this video, StocksToTrade lead trainer Tim Bohen talks about how to identify potential company-backlash plays and how irrational public reactions can create profit opportunities.
Bohen’s a longtime student and cohort of mine, and he knows his stuff as a trader. Listen to what he has to say!
He’ll tell you all about company backlash using the recent example of Peloton.
PTON had a recent IPO ... That alone should get your trading senses tingling since so many recent IPOs have been crazy.
Peloton’s IPO sparked out of the gate, pulled back, and started drifting downward. Pretty normal ... but nobody anticipated what happened next.
They released a holiday commercial that became a huge controversy … Is it a ‘dystopian view of marriage?’ Or is it just standard holiday commercial fare?
Regardless of your personal opinion on the ad, one thing’s for sure: the stock price dropped 10% pretty much instantly.
Nothing about the company changed. There wasn’t a recall. The company didn’t report bad earnings...
In fact, the company is doing great — everyone loves these bikes! So will that price drop really last?
Bohen’s shares his thoughts and tells you what to do in cases like this.
The good thing? This is very similar to a pattern I use to dip buy junk stocks ... This is exactly why I always say it pays to study! Patterns just keep repeating themselves in slightly different variations.
Bohen shares tips for formulating a smart trading plan with plays like this. And he explains why you can’t discount the potential when you see things like this happen in the stock market.
