As soon as trading piqued Goode’s interest, he got to work. He studied everything he could, putting in 30 hours a week. Short selling immediately caught his interest. But shorting can come with a LOT of unexpected headaches...

Like finding shares to short … That can be a hassle.

And not all brokers let traders borrow or short shares. So you have to find the right broker if shorting is your thing. Also, if you’re into low-priced stocks, pay close attention. Most brokers want nothing to do with them.

Goode found most of his shorting opportunities in promoted stocks. Which stocks get promoted? Typically very small companies. They aren’t well known and no one trades them. So the company pays for promoters to spread the word and lure in traders and investors.

Is shorting promoting stocks a viable strategy? It can be, but it’s certainly not easy. You gotta have a strong mindset to handle it! So do your research. Check out all the fees. And when it comes to actually shorting, make sure you’re prepared to trade smart.

Short selling can potentially be a great edge to have ... if you understand it. But it’s a risky way to trade. You can lose far more than your position or even your account. Keep your risk management in check.
