13:59Now PlayingJoe Louis was an American professional heavyweight boxer. Born Joseph Louis Barrow, he was nicknamed the Brown Bomber during his outstanding career. He tallied 52 knockouts and held the championship from 1937 until 1949. That is the longest reign of any title holder in the sport. During this span, he successfully defended his title 25 times - more than any other champion in any division. He was without a doubt, one of the most influential boxers of all time.
He was also without a doubt, one of the biggest playboys and womanizers of the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s.
In this video, we’ll explore his relationship with one of the most highly sought after women of his day. I can’t call her one of the most eligible bachelorettes of the time, because when she and Joe started their relationship…she was MARRIED. But so was Joe. When The Cotton Club closed its doors, Cafe Zanzibar became the news place for that crowd to go. And Joe Louis’s new flame was a Zanzibar chorus girl and model. Her name was Carolle Drake. She was into the Harlem men with deep pockets, and it’s good that Joe had some deep pockets, because a lawsuit would end up forcing Joe Louis to reach down deep into those pockets to pay Carol’s HUSBAND for stealing her affection from him.
